The Continents
ANTARCTICA, the white continent, lies at the bottom of the
earth, permeated by an icy chill.
AFRICA is all seething energy, with pounding drums and
shrill pipes.
In EUROPE we enter a cathedral. Monks intone, a bell
tolls, and an oboe sings plaintively.
ASIA is an epigram, presented with a wry smile.
AUSTRALIA brings in ancient thoughts, with old pipes
conjuring up a timeless age.
A sultry tango is SOUTH AMERICA, with a clap of the
hands, a twist of the neck, and a snap of the heel.
The triumphant trumpet heralds in NORTH AMERICA, and
the cycle closes with vigor and élan.
