I wrote the Universal Prayer as a peace initiative for the third millennium. It was inspired by a poem of the same name by Alexander Pope, which was composed around 1715. The principal melody, that governs all the compositional material, is a setting of the words of the first stanza:
Father of all! In every age In every clime adored; By saint, by savage and by sage Jehovah, Jove or Lord. |
