An inspiration seeing the ancient ruined Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, its eternal massive blocks of stone emerging from the dense jungle.  I was energized by the acquisition of a beautifully eerie flute at a curio shop nearby, the parallel fingering with single chamber producing a myriad of microtonal possibilities.  The composition I ended up writing is a collection of interconnected rites of varying character: wild, crazy, contemplative, surreal, and unified by a "primary motive" (see below) that is drawn from the flute's particular properties.
